The Department of Mathematics congratulates Professor Yunqing Tang for receiving the 2022 SASTRA Ramanujan prize. According with the SASTRA Ramanujan press release,
This annual $10,000 prize is for outstanding contributions by individuals not exceeding the age of 32 in areas of mathematics influenced by Ramanujan in a broad sense. The age limit has been set at 32 because Ramanujan achieved so much in his brief life of 32 years.

The Mathematics Department congratulates Professor Lin Lin recipient of a Simons Investigator award.
Each year, the Simons Foundation requests nominations from a targeted list of institutions in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland for the Simons Investigator programs. Simons Investigators are outstanding theoretical scientists who receive a stable base of research support from the foundation, enabling them to undertake the long-term study of fundamental questions.

In recognition of AAPI month, we are highlighting the remarkable accomplishments and lasting impact Dr. Shiing-Shen Chern (1911-2004), co-founder and founding director of MSRI, made on the Berkeley community and mathematics.

The award, established in 2020 by The Academic Senate’s Committee on Teaching, is presented to UC Berkeley faculty, staff, and student instructors in recognition of the embraced challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and engaged in or supported excellent teaching. These instructors and staff used innovative methods and worked beyond their traditional roles to ensure that students remained engaged and supported, and were challenged to do meaningful work under extraordinary circumstances.

Alan Hammond, Professor, University of California, Berkeley has been named Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS). Dr. Hammond received the award for making major advances in two of the most difficult and deepest questions of modern probability arising from central questions of statistical physics, and for substantial progress on rigorous study of self-avoiding walk.
