Studying mathematics opens the doors to a wide range of professional opportunities and career paths. The campus provides numerous resources to help you further explore these options as you transition from school to career. Here is a list of our top recommended resources to help get you started:

UC Berkeley Career Engagement (formerly known as the Career Center)

Berkeley Career Engagement’s vision is to cultivate a university-wide culture of career readiness, where every student engages in meaningful experiences, has a supportive professional community, and is empowered to achieve lifelong career success. 

Handshake (Careers Platform)

Berkeley Career Engagement uses Handshake as its recruiting platform for current students and alumni (5 years post-graduation). Handshake uses cutting-edge technology to help students more easily connect with employers and source jobs, internships, event information, On-Campus Interviewing (OCI) opportunities, and more.

Forage Virtual Internship Simulations (Internship resources) 

This is an online platform that is available for students to engage in simulated jobs and internships

Parker Dewey Micro-Internships

These are paid, short-term opportunities which you can participate in throughout the year to gain hands-on experience.

Berkeley Career Engagement First Destination Survey

“First Destination” is Berkeley Career Engagement’s annual survey that asks seniors about their post-graduation plans. The information collected includes a sampling of career fields, salaries, job titles, geographic locations, continuing education plans, and much more. You can break down information by major so that you can get ideas for your future.  

One-on-One Career Advising

Current students and recent alumni (24 months post-graduation) can schedule an appointment with a Berkeley Career Engagement career counselor via Handshake. In-person and virtual meetings are available. You can learn more about your options for an appointment and relevant policies on the website above. 

Career Readiness Workbook (Help with Resumes, Cover Letters, Interviews & Action Words)

Berkeley Career Engagement has created a workbook to help students with every aspect of the job search from career exploration, to interview tips. Skip to pages 17-23 for guidance on crafting resumes and cover letters. You can find a helpful list of action words on page 19.
