Math 53 - Multivariable Calculus -- [4 units]

Course Format:

Three hours of lecture and three hours of discussion per week.

Prerequisites: 1A-1B or equivalent

Description: Parametric equations and polar coordinates. Vectors in 2- and 3-dimensional Euclidean spaces. Partial derivatives. Multiple integrals. Vector calculus. Theorems of Green, Gauss, and Stokes. (F,SP)

Textbook: Stewart, Multiple Variable Calculus. A specially priced UC Berkeley paperback edition is available.

Chapter 10: Parametric Equations and Polar Coordinates (skip 10.5 and 10.6) 4 hours
Chapter 12: Vectors and the Geometry of Space 4 hours
Chapter 13: Vector Functions 1 hours
Chapter 14: Partial Derivatives 8 hours
Chapter 15: Multiple Integrals 9 hours
Chapter 16: Vector Calculus 11 hours
Examples of Partial Differential Equations 1 hours
Total 38 hours
