Honors Program

In addition to completing the requirements for the major in mathematics or applied mathematics, students in the honors program must: (a) earn a GPA of at least 3.5 in upper division and graduate courses in the major and at least 3.3 in all courses taken at the University; (b) complete either Math 196, in which they will write a senior honors thesis, or pass two graduate mathematics courses with a grade of at least A-; (c) receive the recommendation of the Head Major Advisor. Students interested in the honors program should consult with the Honors Program Advisor early in their program, preferably by their junior year.

 

Please note that due to the new Spring 2020 default grading option to PNP, the requirements for graduating with honors in Math and Applied Math in Spring 2020 have been adjusted as follows: 
In addition to completing the requirements for the major in mathematics or applied mathematics, students in the Honors Program must: (a) earn a GPA of at least 3.450 in upper division and graduate courses in the major and at least 3.3 in all courses taken at the University; (b) complete either Math 196, in which they will write a senior honors thesis, or completion of at least 2 graduate classes with grades of A- or higher in each or 1 graduate class with an A- or higher plus 1 graduate class with a Pass grade if that "P" grade is earned in Spring 2020. (c) receive the recommendation of the Head Major Advisor.
