Please join us in celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and honor the rich heritage and incredible contributions the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community have made to the field of Mathematics and the world. In recognition of AAPI month, we are highlighting the remarkable accomplishments and lasting impact Dr. Shiing-Shen Chern (1911-2004), co-founder and founding director of MSRI, made on the Berkeley community and mathematics.

Additionally, the violence against the AAPI community these past few months has focused our awareness on the long history of discrimination and racism toward the people of AAPI descent, and while we celebrate the AAPI community this month it is important to reaffirm the commitment of the Berkeley Math Community to stand in solidarity with the AAPI community.

To learn more about Dr. Shiing-Shen Chern as well as to find information on events and resources to celebrate and support the AAPI community, please check out these sites:

For information on how you can support yourselves, each other, and our friends, colleagues and peers in the AAPI community, please visit this collection of resources we have gathered: Department of Mathematics: News & Announcements.
