DeCals

MUSA currently runs two DeCal courses for undergraduates interested in math. If you're starting out in proof-based math or if you want to dig deeper into mathematical structures, we have something for you!

MUSA 74: Transition to Upper-Division Mathematics

MUSA 74 is a 2-unit DeCal designed to help students bridge the gap between lower-division math and upper-division, proof-based courses. This course focuses on proof writing, abstraction, and other foundational concepts that show up in courses like Math 110, 113, and 104.

MUSA 74 is a great choice if you're currently taking Math 53, 54, or 55 and want to develop abstract reasoning skills.

You can find the syllabus, sign-up form, and more at the MUSA 74 Linktree.

MUSA 174: Introduction to Category Theory

MUSA 174 is a 2-unit DeCal offering an introduction to Category Theory, which is an elegant language that connects many areas of modern mathematics. It's about objects, morphisms, functors, and more, which are all meant to provide intuition for the structures that unify different kinds of math.

This course is aimed at students who are already comfortable with proofs and basic abstract algebra or linear algebra.
