"Free Probability Theory" What happens if the definition of independence in probability theory is changed, replacing tensor products by free products? The talk will discuss the consequences (semicircle law versus Gauss law, asymptotics of large random matrices, free entropy theory, the solution of problems on von Neumann algebras, non-crossing partitions, etc.).
