The math department publishes a rough course overview.

The first midterm will be Thursday, October 2nd. The second will be on Thursday, November 13th. The final will be on Thursday December 18th.

## 1. Course Policies

**Grading.** 70% exams (20% for each midterm, 30% for the
final), and the remainder is half homework and half quizzes. The
lowest quiz grade will be dropped.

**Quizzes.** There will be a fifteen-minute quiz every
Wednesday at the beginning of discussion. We will go over the
solutions to the quiz at the following meeting.

**E-mail.** I will not answer e-mails that ask how to solve
particular homework problems which do not give some evidence of your
having tried something. The night before an exam, I may have to
triage, prioritizing administrative and then quick math
clarification questions over everything else.
