The score distribution for the first midterm was as follows: Score range Number of tests 46-50 15 41-45 6 36-40 4 31-35 8 21-30 0 0-20 8 Your score should be regarded as a rough diagnostic measure of how well you are keeping up with the material. I tried to deduct small amounts of points for minor errors or omissions and large amounts of points for answers which seem to show a lack of understanding of the material. You should pay particular attention to any parts of the exam where you lost lots of points and try to brush up on the underlying fundamental concepts and techniques, in order to prepare for the rest of the course. Also, if you have not already done so, I strongly encourage you to introduce yourself to some classmates and regularly discuss the material with them. I am also happy to help during office hours. The following is a rough interpretation of the midterm scores: 40's: Good to Excellent. You are doing a good job of keeping up. 30's: OK. You may need to work on a few areas, see above. Below 30: Needs Improvement. You are going to have to work harder to understand the basic concepts. It is also possible that you do not yet have enough preparation for this course.
