# Alvin Kerber

Algebra is the offer made by the devil to the mathematician. The devil says: `I will give you this powerful machine, it will answer any question you like. All you need to do is give me your soul: give up geometry and you will have this marvellous machine.'

-- Michael Atiyah

I am a fourth-year mathematics PhD student. My interests include 3-manifold topology, knot theory, classical algebraic geometry, topological data analysis, and machine learning.

## Learning

My advisor is Ian Agol.

I passed my qualifying exam on Friday, October 19, 2012 (questions I was asked).

This semester, I'm a GSI for Math 110, sections 103 and 104. In the past:

- GSI for Math 16B in Fall 2014
- GSI for Math 128A in Fall 2013
- GSI for Math 53 in Fall 2012
- Taught Math 1A in Summer 2012

## Resume

I have 2 versions of my resume, depending on whether you're more interested in me as a software engineer or a quant or data scientist.

On github, I am akerber47.

I should probably write an academic CV at some point.

## Fun Stuff

Maybe you want to make some worksheets?
