Prerequisites Math 53, 54. Math 170 would be useful, but is not required.
Description Topic: Dynamic Optimization. This course will discuss in detail the theory and applications of ``dynamic optimization'', primarily in the context of the calculus of variations and optimal control theory. Topics will include careful derivation of Euler-Lagrange equations, second variation calculations, the Pontryagin maximum principle and dynamic programming, with many interesting examples from pure and applied mathematics.
