Calculus Diagnostic Placement Exam
Online Calculus Diagnostic Placement Examination Project
The Online Mathematics Diagnostic Placement Examination Project is a joint effort
by Professors James A. Sethian, Theodore A. Slaman, and W. Hugh
Woodin of the Department of Mathematics at the University of California,
Berkeley. Our goal is to produce on-line examinations to help UCB
undergraduates choose between the various courses offered in the
Mathematics Department.
At present, we have in place on this website a working version of the
on-line exam testing students' preparation for calculus. This exam
should help students choose between Math 32, 16A, and 1A. The exam
consists of problems of varying degrees of difficulty. A well prepared
student should expect to answer a majority of the problems correctly.
It remains to correlate performance on this exam with performance in our
courses, and to adjust the evaluation section of our on-line grading
accordingly.
