William Thomas Welcker


Graduate of West Point, and a Confederate Veteran, was the last appointment of the Regents to the Faculty of the new University of California in Berkeley in 1869.

Held the Chair of Mathematics from 1869 to 1881.

Became an Ex Officio Regent as Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1883 - serving until 1887.

Then practiced law in San Francisco, and was made Professor Emeritus of Mathematics in 1898 by the Regents two years prior to his death in 1900.
