Single Variable Calculus, Seventh Edition, Early Transcendentals for UC Berkeley by James Stewart.

Prerequisites and enrollments

The class meets at MWF 12:00-1:00pm in 2050 Valley Life Science Building. You are also required to register in one of the following discussion sections.

Homework, Quizzes, Exams

Webwork homework is cancelled. Accordingly, there will be weekly homework sets, to be updated in the syllabus below. Please do them all, and hand them in to your GSI instructor in the section meetings on the due dates specified in the syllabus. They will be graded by your GSI and returned to you weekly. They will be counted in the overall grade by 12%. The first homework set is due on Thursday Sept. 18.

There will be 2 quizzes, to be taken in your discussion section. They will be graded by your GSI instructor and returned to you in the discussion section.

There will be two midterm exams and one final exam. The midterms will be taken in two of the regular MWF classes, graded by the GSI instructors and me, and returned to you in your discussion section. The schedule and location of the final exam will be notified when it is ready.

Webwork

Due to unsolved system errors, we have to abort the use of Webwork. Hence, there is only paper-based weekly homework, required to be handed in to your GSI in your setion meetings.

Suggested problems

For your own practice, here are suggested problems from the textbook. They are different from the mandatory ones in the above syllabus, and will not be graded, so please do not hand them in.

Special Accommodations

All students requesting special accommodations need to be registered with the Disabled Student Services and need to provide a letter indicating the necessary accommodations. Because it is very difficult to arrange accommodations at the last minute, all requests must be received at least 10 days prior to the exams.
