Java Opie Client
Additional Information on this Applet
How to use the applet
To use this applet:
- Type or paste the challenge into the upper text area.
The challenge usually looks something like:
otp-md5 432 xy1234 ext
but usually you can just type or paste in the middle two items:
432 xy1234.
- Type your Opie passphrase into the second window.
- Press the button ``Compute one-time password.''
- Type or paste the resulting one-time password into your terminal window.
Helpful Hints
- Hitting the Tab key in the first window moves the cursor to the
second window, and hitting Return (or Enter) in the second
window is equivalent to pressing the ``Compute one-time password'' button.
So keyboard shortcuts can be used in place of the mouse much of the time.
- On Unix systems, you can triple-click on the one-time password. This
grabs a terminating end-of-line character in addition to the one-time
password itself.
- The resulting one-time password appears as a string of hexadecimal digits
instead of six short English words because this is easier for cutting and
pasting. It will still be accepted by the Opie system.
- If you prefer that the one-time password appear in words, you can select
that option in the ``Output format'' selector. Generally speaking, though,
it should be unnecessary to change any of the options on the last two
lines.
- Default choices for the options can be changed by setting the appropriate
applet parameters in the html file that calls this applet. See the
source of this web page for an example.
