My transition into biology
In May 2007, I finished my Ph.D. in pure mathematics under the direction of Clint McCrory.  My dissertation involved the topology of toric varieties.

My first postdoc was in the Cancer Biology department at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.  I worked in a wet lab under the guidance of Dr. Suzy Torti.  I got fairly good at real time rt-pcr and also enjoyed cell culture.

I loved my time in the lab, but I did miss mathematics.  Hence, my current research goals were born: to tackle real problems from biology using mathematics.  I am fortunate now to be working with Lior Pachter who is both a biologist and a mathematician.
