APARTMENT DIRECT FROM OWNER |
This is a lovely, very comfortable
2-bedroom apartment (93m2, nearly 1000 sq. ft.)
located
just off the Seine at the end of the Canal St. Martin,
looking out
over the Port de Plaisance (riverboat marina) at the Marais.
Location: On the canal running from the Place de la Bastille to the Seine, the apartment is ideally located for exploring Paris. The Métro (Quai de la Râpée) is just steps away, and the station is situated just one stop from Line 1 (which takes you to the Marais, the Beaubourg (Pompidou) modern art museum, the Louvre, the Place de la Concorde, and the Champs-Elysées), and one stop from Line 10, which takes you to the Latin Quarter, Saint Germain and beyond. The Eiffel Tower is easily reached by the direct 87 bus. With the Gare de Lyon and the Gare d'Austerlitz each just a few blocks away, three RER lines are easily accessible, as well as the Air France coaches that take you directly to and from Charles de Gaulle-Roissy airport. The famous Jardin des Plantes on the Left Bank is within walking distance, as are the even more famous Place des Vosges and the trendy shops of the Marais on the Right Bank. The Ile Saint Louis is an easy walk as well, and of course Notre Dame Cathedral lies just beyond the island. |

Closer to home, you'll be just down the street from all the happening nightlife at the Bastille, one of the places of choice for young Parisians to hang out on Friday and Saturday nights. Lesser known, but a must-see, the newly-installed Promenade Plantée running from the Bastille Opéra to the eastern edge of Paris is a new treasure of the capital (it was recently featured in the Ethan Hawke-Julie Delpy film, Before Sunset). Convenience stores, cafés and restaurants are to be found close by, and two supermarkets (FranPrix and Monoprix) are located a few blocks away. Your trip won't be complete, however, without visiting the Marché d'Aligre and its indoor market, the Marché Beauvau, whose butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers, poultry specialists, cheese-sellers, and oil merchants are unsurpassed. Their stalls will take your breath away. The location is quite safe: residents of the building come and go quite late in the evening without a moment's trepidation. The building has an elevator and a gardienne ("gardienne" is the current French term for "concierge"). |
The apartment is located on the first floor (European numbering; second floor in American usage) of a beautiful, quiet 19th-century Hausmannian pierre-de-taille building. The "digicode" (security code) and three locked doors provide further protection, although the neighborhood is extremely safe in any case. It looks out on the broad open space over the canal and onto the Marais, giving you a sense of openness and light rarely found in a first-floor apartment. On Sundays you can watch men playing pétanque, or boules, across the street. |
The living room has a hi-fi stereo, cable television with a DVD player attached, a Yamaha Clavinova digital piano, and a comfortable sofa with sofabed option. You are welcome to play the CDs and DVDs provided. |
The apartment has hardwood floors and oriental rugs throughout, with typical Parisian molded (3 meters high) ceilings.
It's representative of Belle-Époque Paris, but we've renovated it and
supplied it with every convenience a North American would expect.
The apartment is supplied with a fax/answering machine plus a portable phone. The
broadband WiFi connection
powers both
your computer and the large stereo television in the living room, which is also connected to a multi-region DVD player.
.
The kitchen is fully equipped, so that you can make wonderful meals with the food you'll buy either at the Thursday/Saturday Avenue Ledru Rollin outdoor market a block and a half away, or at the nearby, very popular, Marché d'Aligre, open every day but Monday. (A shopping cart is provided to ease the burden of bringing your purchases home.) You'll find a number of excellent American cookbooks, as well as measuring cups and spoons, and also an electronic scale. All the appliances are new. |
Both the large bathroom and the separate W.C. were completely remodeled (including all new plumbing) eighteen months ago. The bathroom is tiled floor-to-ceiling, and the 1m2 tiled shower boasts two simultaneous water flows: overhead and handheld nozzle. The bathroom also has a bidet, a hair dryer, a clothes hamper, a large theatrical-style make-up mirror and the largest washing machine available. The separate clothes dryer is equally large and very efficient. All towels and linens are provided. |
There are five gas burners on the electric oven with convection option. The kitchen is also equipped with a standard-size dishwasher, microwave, toaster, drip coffee maker, food processor and friteuse (deep-fryer). Fridge and freezer, of course! And, naturally, glassware, dishes and cutlery are provided, as well as the staples of good cooking (oil, vinegar, sugar, flour, and a multitude of spices). You're also welcome to partake of the coffee, tea, cereal, and other foodstuffs available. |
Both bedrooms have two-person beds (a large queen in the master bedroom) |
