Announcements regarding the last week of class
Here is a practice final with solutions. Keep in mind that this final is designed for a three hour time period. Also, in our final, the vector calculus problems will be less straightforward and more like the problems in the worksheets and quizzes.
I have posted solutions to worksheet 16.8.
The homework assigned for 16.9 should be turned in Wednesday if you would like it returned to you on Thursday, which I recommend (and also since we'll have a quiz on Wednesday). However, you may still turn it it on Friday for full credit.
I will be holding extra office hours next week to prepare for the final. In addition to my usual Tuesday and Thursday hours I will also be available in my office on Monday 10-12 and Wednesday 12-2 (and by appointments, of course).
Instead of just one quiz on Wednesday, we will have two shorter quizzes: one on Tuesday covering 16.7 and one on Wednesday covering 16.8-16.9. This will allow you to have some feedback on your understanding of Stokes and Divergence Theorem before the final.
Due to the difficulty and the importance of surface integrals, I have written and posted full solutions to Worksheet 16.7. I highly recommend studying those problems in preparation for the final.
For those of you wondering how to study for the upcoming final, here are my recommendations: Determine what you did wrong on any quizzes where you lost points and make you sure you fully understand the solution. Review the graded homework problems. Take a practice exam under test conditions (I will post a practice exam, but they can also be found at the link below). For addition problems, I recommend the review problems at the end of each chapter.
