Charles Wang: Combinatorics and geometry of flag varieties.
Abstract
This talk will give a gentle introduction to flag varieties. We will develop the connection between certain combinatorial objects and the geometry of flag varieties in type A, and mention how this sort of connection manifests in other types. Along the way, we will examine some of the results produced from this interaction of combinatorics and geometry. In particular, we will focus on applications to Schubert calculus and symmetric function theory.
