C. Local transportation in Berkeley: ==================================== Remember that on Friday the conference will be at MSRI, and on Saturday and Sunday the conference will be in Soda Hall on the U.C. Berkeley campus. 1. Getting to MSRI: =================== The easiest ways to get to MSRI are by the Hill shuttle bus and by car. a. By shuttle: ============== A shuttle (one way fare = 25 cents) makes a round trip between MSRI and the Hearst Mining Circle (just east of Evans Hall, where the U.C. Berkeley math department is housed). The departure times are listed below. The trip takes about 15 minutes. Other shuttles can take you from various points around campus to the Mining Circle, if you prefer not to walk there from your hotel or from the BART station. See http://public-safety.berkeley.edu/p&t/transit/pages/daytime.html for more information. By car: ========== First, consult the maps available at http://www.msri.org/info/directions/maps.html To drive to MSRI, make your way to Gayley Road (on the eastern edge of the U.C. Berkeley campus). Turn onto Rimway Road, which intersects Gayley Road about midway between the northern and southern boundaries of campus. Take the first left onto Centennial Drive (which goes away from the Memorial stadium). Signs now indicate the direction of MSRI. Centennial Drive goes up up up, past the U.C. Botanical Garden, Lawrence Berkeley National Labs, and the Lawrence Hall of Science. Past the Lawrence Hall of Science the road curves right and up. MSRI's parking spaces are in the uppermost two rows of the parking lots after this curve. Please park there and walk the 94 steps up to the MSRI building. Pick up a parking permit in the lobby, and then walk back down the 94 steps to place the permit in your car. Driving directions from further out of town can be found at http://www.msri.org/info/directions/index.html 2. Getting to Soda Hall ======================= A U.C. Berkeley campus map is available at http://www.berkeley.edu/map/ Soda Hall is on the northern edge of campus, on Hearst Ave. between Euclid Ave. and LeRoy Ave. The doors to Soda Hall are locked on weekends. Before the talks and during breaks we will have someone at the door to let registered participants into the building, but if you arrive during a talk you might have to wait until the next break to get into the building.
