Text:               Precalculus: A Problems-Oriented Approach (6th edition) by David Cohen
Lecture:          MWF 8-9; 160 Kroeber
Instructor:       Jana Comstock
Office:            1065 Evans
Office Hours: Monday 9-10:30, Wednesday 1-2
Email:             jana@math.berkeley.edu

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
There is no class Friday, March 21st.

The lecture scheduled for Monday, May 12th will not be held at 8 AM; rather we will have a review session from 5-6:30 in 1015 Evans.

You may rewrite the solutions to the midterm and turn them in (along with your original solutions) for possible extra credit.  Any improvement to your grade will not cause it to exceed a C-.  You may use notes or your book but work should be your own; we reserve the right to award NO credit to any solutions which are identical to anyone else's solutions.
Please be aware that while this may affect your grade directly, the main benefit which is available to you is the INDIRECT effect which may result from completing this valuable exercise!

A copy of the first midterm is available here:

Grading

Homework   10%
Quizzes        20%
Midterm 1    20%
Midterm 2    20%
Final            30%

Homework

Homework will be assigned in lecture on MWF of every week; that week's homework will be collected the following Monday in section.  For example, the homeworks assigned on Monday the 27th, Wednesday the 29th, and Friday the 31st will be collected Monday the 3rd.  Each assignment will be graded out of 2 possible points;  1 point for  reasonable completeness and 2 points for completeness and some accuracy.  You will be allowed to drop 2 homework grades.

Quizzes

Quizzes will be five to fifteen minutes long and will be given during section meetings on Wednesdays/Thursdays.  Calculators will not be allowed.  There will be no makeup quizzes administered but the three lowest quiz scores will be dropped when calculating final grades.

Exams

Calculators will not be allowed during exams;  the only items you will need are a pencil and a blue book.

Attendance

While I strongly recommend attending all lectures and discussions, attendance is not in any way compulsory.  It is entirely your own responsibility and the only way it will directly affect your grade is if you miss tests or quizzes as a result.
