Review Materials

There are many resources available to help you review for quizzes, midterms and finals.
To get you started, here are problems and solutions from the last time I taught this class.
You may also be able to find useful review materials on webpages from other past instructors of Math 1B. For example, there is a tonne of review material posted on Rob Myers' web page. The first time I was a GSI for 1B, Rob was also a GSI. Since he's a great TA, I learned a lot from him. The style of Homework, Quizzes and Exams we give is very similar. So check out his midterm exam review page.
You may even want to try to use your favourite search engine to find more material: for example, I managed to find a few more pages with links to old quizzes, exams, solutions etc. by making the following query at Google.

Tips for New Summer Students

There are a number of differences between summer session and the other two semesters at Berkeley:
Important Dates
Last day to withdraw with partial refund: June 25
Last day to change your grading option: July 30
Last day to withdraw: July 30
Some Tips
Don't fall behind: The lectures go at roughly the same pace as in a normal semester, but there are twice as many lectures in a week! Unless you are doing homework problems every night, you will fall behind.
Keep reviewing: In a regular semester, many students forget material as they turn in the assignments, and then study-up before the final exam to bring it all back. There just isn't time for that in the shortened semester. So keep reviewing the material. In this course, that's a must, as each unit we do will build on the previous ones.
Use all your resources. Here are some you may not know about...
  1. Your textbook: Ok, so you know about this one, but you'd be surprised how many of your classmates only open this book to find out the homework problems. The assigned readings are only like 4 or 5 pages each night, and by reading - even skimming - before lecture, you will get much more out of each lecture. Just try it!
  2. Your classmates: form study groups to work on homework problems and study for exams.
  3. My office hours. Don't hesitate to come ask questions - I can't emphasize this enough.
  4. Other sections of this class: check out the webpages of the other lectures teaching this class; they may have review material to supplement mine.
  5. Moffit Library: has past examinations on file. You can access them on the internet from the library homepage.
Don't overload: The workload in one summer class is already heavy. Be careful not to take on too many commitments. Besides... it's summer!
