From Brendan Shapiro's former weblog, circa spring 2002: Competed in a tournament last weekend with Charles and two other really good quizbowl players from Capo Valley and Woodbridge. Came to realize that despite the success I've had against high school competition, I'd be a total joke amongst the college ranks. Despite their complete disregard for grooming, Berkeley A had some pretty brilliant players. David Farris may look like "Retarded Hippie Lous [sic] XIV" as Charles so eloquently put it, but anyone who's finished introduction to tensors/manifolds by their junior year in high school and still manages to a freakish store of history and literature knowledge automatically earns my respect. Awe is more like it, actually.
