I will show how the abc conjecture is related to Nevanlinna's Second Main Theorem with truncated counting functions, as applied to three points on P^1. I will then show how my ``General conjecture'' for algebraic points (Conjecture 5.2.6 of SLN 1239) implies a stronger abc conjecture for normal crossings divisors on smooth varieties. I will also discuss how this relates to work of Buium (IMRN 1994 #5).
