Introduction
I am an applied mathematician in the UC Berkeley Mathematics Department and the Department of Mathematics at LBL. My research focuses on mathematical modeling and scientific computation, particularly for interdisciplinary applications in science and engineering. I work on a variety of problems, and I've collaborated in a number of fields including physics, biology, materials science, and mechanical engineering.
Current work
I'm particularly interested in questions that relate to the mechanics of materials, numerical algorithms, and geometry. Several recent projects that I've worked on relate to energy production and energy efficiency, including the mathematical modeling of bulk metallic glasses, and the development of high-throughput screening techniques to find advanced materials for carbon capture applications. As part of my work, I've released several software libraries, including Voro++ for three-dimensional computations of the Voronoi tessellation.
Since 2010, I've also been working with the Bay Area Physical Sciences-Oncology Center, a pilot initiative from the National Cancer Institute. As part of this, I collaborate with a number of experimental groups at Berkeley and UC San Francisco, on using computational modeling to understand the role of mechanical forces between cells and their environment.
