Introduction

  • B.A. in mathematics (University of California, San Diego)
  • M.A. in mathematics (University of California, Berkeley)
  • Here is a link to my 2003 UC Berkeley masters thesis On fixed points for discrete logarithms. This original thesis is based on joint work with Carl Pomerance during summer internships at Bell Labs (2001, 2002). My advisor at Berkeley was Paul Vojta. I am currently a member of the Graduate Group in Science and Mathematics Education (SESAME) at UC Berkeley. I am working with Alan Schoenfeld and am supported by a graduate fellowship through the NSF-funded Diversity in Mathematics Education project. I am particularly interested in how people use representations to structure their mathematical thought. I am motivated by the work of Geoff Saxe, Andy diSessa, Dor Abrahamson, and Orit Parnafes. In my non-mathematical life, I am co-concertmaster of the Prometheus Symphony Orchestra and first violinist with the Kensington Symphony Orchestra and the Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra .
