Betsy Stovall

Just graduated with a Ph.D. in math. I'm at UCLA now. I'll eventually set up a webpage there and stop maintaining this one.
This is me.

    Research

I study harmonic analysis, and my advisor is Michael Christ. My thesis is on a few examples of a type of operator called a generalized Radon transform.

    Future plans

I'll be a postdoc at UCLA for a year (2009-2010) and Brown for a few years thereafter.
I'm not sure how well I will be maintaining this page in the future. At some point, I will put up a webpage here.

    Teaching

I have served as a GSI (graduate student instructor) for five semesters and one summer at UC Berkeley. I have been a TA for Math 1B (integral calculus) and 53 (multivariable calculus), have assisted in the training of new GSIs through Math 300 (teaching workshop), and have graded for Math 222 (graduate level PDE). In the summer of 2006, I had the opportunity to teach my own course, Math 185 (complex analysis); here is the old course webpage.

    Diversity at Berkeley

I am involved in two student organizations which are working to promote diversity in the math department at UC Berkeley. The Noetherian Ring primarily serves as a support group for women math graduate students. Unbounded Representations was started in Fall 2008. We are currently working on a variety of projects related to diversity and mentoring of graduate students and could always use more people and ideas. I have also been involved in the mentoring activities of the MGSA.

    Other talents

I'm pretty quick up the Evans stairs, though my most recent official run was over a year ago.
