My comments during the first day of section about expectations, procedure and helpful advice about solving and reading math.

May 15: Final exams have been graded and course grades have been entered into Bearfacts. Enjoy your summer!
May 12: Some coefficients were miscomputed in the very last line of problem 4 in the integrals section. They have now been fixed. If you find more errors, please let me know so the files can be updated. Any future updates will result in a changed timestamp next to the download link.
May 11: Full solutions for final review are up. Good luck on your final!

April 15: There were three small errors on the review solutions because your crazy GSI thinks 2.5-2=1.5. They have now been fixed. They all occured in the second section of the review:
Problem 1: |f(2.5)-T_2(2.5)|=|(2.5-2)^3|=1/8
Problem 2: T_2(2.5)=pi/2
Problem 3: T_2(2.5)=1.75

March 15: Oral Exam Deadline. The deadline for signing up for the oral exam is Friday (3/16) at 4pm.

March 14: Oral Exam Locations. If you have signed up for Monday or Wednesday, your oral exam will be held in 844 Evans (Yi's office). If you have signed up for Tuesday or Thursday, your oral exam will be held in 1061 Evans (Paul's office).

March 8: I will hold an extra office hour this Friday, March 9th, at 1pm for students who want to review oral exam problems.
March 8: Oral Exam Signup My partner for the oral exam is Yi Liu. The sign up sheet for exam times will be available outside my office starting 7:45am tomorrow, March 9th. Please try to sign up for a 15-minute slot that you can be certain you will not be late for. Sign up early to get a spot that fits your schedule.
March 8: Oral Exam Procedure. You have a 15-minute slot. The exam is out of 10 points. You roll a 10-sided die and that is the number problem you will have to do. If you want a different problem, you may roll again until you get a different problem to do. However, this will cost you 2 points off your final score on the exam. You must be able to state the problem and prove it. You don't need to memorize the order of the problems--if you rolled a 5 we'll prompt you with "The alternating series test" but you will need to say what exactly the alternating series test asserts. You will have 7 minutes where only you are speaking and proving things, after which point we will ask questions. These may be clarifications of certain steps, justifications, or variations ("what happens if you do X instead?"). Working through an example is also fair game, such as in problem 1, where the review sheet works through the example of showing the limit of 1/n is 0. The last 3 minutes will be me and Yi deliberating your grade behind closed doors. You may have another student or two observe you during your oral exam. It can make you feel more comfortable, and this way other students can get a feel for the structure of the exam.

Feb 9: Solutions to the practice problems are partially up. I've written up detailed explanations to part I and have put those up. The solutions to the remaining parts will be going up later tonight and Saturday morning, but I figured you'd prefer seeing big pieces earlier than waiting for the whole thing.
Feb 8: The practice problems for the midterm that I gave out in section on Wednesday are now available for download at the bottom of the page. A small typo was fixed (the integral with 4x^2-25 now has an x in the numerator). Solutions will go up Friday night.
Feb 6: I will be holding an extra office hour on Friday Feb 9 at 2pm for extra review before the exam.

Jan 26: Quiz 2 Solutions are up.
Jan 20: Solutions to the first quiz are now up. I wrote a very detailed solution to section 108's final problem that talks about how to find f and g'. This is a "stream of consciousness" to show the kind of thought process that goes into a problem like that.
Quiz solutions will in general go up during the weekend after the quiz. I encourage my students to try the other section's quiz for more practice, and to look at both sets of solutions.
Office hours are now listed. If you cannot attend either time, email me. We can try to work out another time to meet and if one time does not work for a large number of people I will try to reschedule it.
If you would like to switch sections, please attend the section you desire and inform the GSI that you would like to be in that section. Contact the head GSI, Ioan Berbec (ioan@math Office: Evans 835), to let him know that you want to switch sections. Do not try to do this through Telebears; it probably will not work (and may even drop you from the class!) and the Head TA needs to stay informed. We will try to accomodate everyone to the best of our abilities. Please ensure that the GSI for the new section knows that you are attending and attend that section only so that we can keep track of your grades and give you proper credit.
