Graduate Student Instructor Openings

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS TEACHING POSITIONS

If the need arises, the Department of Mathematics will appoint qualified graduate students from other departments. Applicants who qualify will be waitlisted for an appointment. Whether waitlisted applicants are needed is generally not known until close to, or even after, the first day of instruction. Please note that while your preferences are considered, offers are made based upon open sections.

Students wishing to apply should inform Barbara Peavy (967 Evans, ). To be eligible, students must have excellent grades in mathematics courses. Continuing students must have a GPA of at least 3.1. International students must have passed the SPEAK/OPT test before they will be considered.

The following application materials must be submitted:
  • Incoming Graduate Students: Copies of transcripts of previous college work, copies of letters of recommendation to graduate school

  • Continuing Graduate Students: Copies of transcripts of previous college work, letters of recommendation from two Berkeley faculty members

All first-time Mathematics GSI's are required to enroll in Math 300, the Teaching Workshop.
