The Bay Area Scientific Computing Day
The Bay Area Scientific Computing Day (BASCD) is an
annual informal gathering to
encourage the interaction and collaboration of researchers in the field of
computational science and engineering from the San Francisco Bay Area. This
event provides a great venue for junior researchers to present their work to the
local community, and for the Bay Area scientific and computational science
communities at large to interchange views on today's multidisciplinary
computational challenges and state-of-the-art
developments.
This year, the BASCD has been organized as a two-day
workshop. In addition to the usual talks on the first day,
we will hold a second day of talks in celebration of the
many decades of accomplishments and the 75th birthdays of
Prof. William
(Velvel) Kahan and
Prof. Beresford Parlett, both of whom have made
fundamental and innumerable contributions to many fields of
scientific computation. This will also be a celebration of
great achievements by their academic descendants.
This year's BASCD is sponsored by the Mathematics
Department, UC Berkeley , the Department of EECS, UC
Berkeley, and
the Mathematical Sciences
Research Institute (MSRI), and held at MSRI at 17 Gauss
Way in Berkeley, CA on Saturday and Sunday March 29-30,
2008.

There is plenty of free weekend parking space
available in front of the Space Science Laboratory
building, which is next to MSRI. But read the signs carefully; not all weekend
parking is free.
The AC Transit Line 65 runs between Berkeley BART
Station and Lawerence Hall of Science. Check out
AC
Transit Maps and Schedules for times and bus stops. Thanks
to Christof Voemel for this information.
