Math 55: Discrete Mathematics
Math 55 (Discrete Mathematics) has been added as a new lower-division requirement for the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics majors. It will be required for all students declaring the major beginning Spring 2009, with the exception of transfer students. For transfer students it will be required beginning Fall 2010.
New Semi-Electives Choices for Pure Math Undergraduates
Math 143 (Elementary Algebraic Geometry) and Math 136 (Incompleteness and Undecidability) are new courses being offered which can satisfy semi-electives for Pure Math Undergraduates.
Beresford Parlett (Department of Mathematics, UC Berkeley) and Cleve Moler (The MathWorks) have been awarded the Hans Schneider Prize in Linear Algebra for 2008 by the International Linear Algebra Society (ILAS).
